It’s the OPEC meeting that perhaps more than any other is drawing the international spotlight. To be held in Vienna on 30 November, oil producer countries will meet to in order to agree on an international crude oil output freeze, a decision which analysts believe could bring the price per barrel back up after months of decline. The November meeting follows a number of major summits that effectively came to nothing, including the one in Doha in April 2016 and that in September in Algiers. Although the parties reached a preliminary agreement at the latter event to reduce crude output by 1 million bpd, quotas for each country, a necessary ingredient for any final agreement, were never decided on. In Vienna they will tackle this extremely delicate matter.
